1978 Last Edition - UK

Amongst the last 640 Emden built Beetles exported to the UK for the 1978 model year were 300 1200L Last Editions.

It seems that Volkswagen's sales literature described all 640 cars in the final UK run as 'Last Edition Beetles'. However, only the 300 Diamond Silver cars were intended to have the special numbered plaques, and it's these that most enthusiasts recognize as being the true 'Last Edition' cars.

Diamond Silver Metallic (L97A) paintwork, Marine (dark blue) cloth seats. Interior also featured padded dashboard, plaque on glove box lid, rear parcel shelf, heated rear window. European production of the Beetle Sedan ceased on January 18th, 1978. See also Glory Beetle.
